Informal
Activites of Tunnal(Dona)’Gem Pit,Tend To Decsend Natural lands of Sabaragamuwa
Basin Within Next Twenty Year
Mr.Aravinda Ravibhanu Sumanarathna
Sabaragamuwa is a unique province which
consisted special special geological background. Pleistocene fossil deposit
& gem trade are most plansible factors for exhibit traits of
sabaragamuwa.Rathnapura is the center operation station of Gem
trade.Eheliyagoda,Kuruwita,Rathnapura,Pelmadulla are the majority cities which
consisted huge gem pits.Business society of Sabaragamu area is getting high
currency and economy from Mine Industry, but because of its disorganized activities
it’s becoming a threat to the Natural land and Bio diversity. In Sabaragamu
basin (0m-6m) high land has become corrosion .Many mines and disorganized Dona
mines can be identify

Many mine industry courses
100m of diameterand 60m deep major pits have sap and examine the lode .
Therefore soil profile made as a vertex and inconstancy land has got created.
Though these pits filled with soil back ,during the rainy days it will turn in
to marshy land. For a year Sabaragamu area gets
highest precipitation, therefore eventually land will get destroyed.Because of disorganize
activated dona mines main cities of sabaragamu districtthreat to be sink.most
of the dona pits are 10m-150m deep and 150 dona’s are there in palmadulla city. 40% of dona mines 40m-100m depth goes through the city. Therefor
in different levels of donas goesdown through the space enclosed soil will sunk
down.In 20 years 80% of palmadulla city ,10 % of rathnapura city and 40 % of
around the city ,60% of kuruwita city , 10% of Ehaliyagoda city and 30% of around the city will be in danger to sink. We would like to discuss the data’s
that based on land scape in this area have found its
sinking briskly and cusses including
natural and activities that has been taken
during 2005 -2015.
